His research focuses on the identification of novel strategies to combat multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens, particularly for MDR Gram-negative bacteria, in both preclinical studies and in the clinical setting. His research also includes the discovery of novel antimicrobial agents and antibiotic adjuvants through screening from natural products, de novo synthesis and chemical modification. Yuan is also interested in the formation of antibiotic tolerance, a biological phenomenon where bacteria are genetically susceptible but phenotypically tolerant to antibiotic treatment. He has published over 30 original research articles and reviews in this area.
Yuan obtained his bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine in 2013 at Southwest University, China and received his PhD degree in veterinary pharmacology in 2018 from China Agricultural University.
