GARDP Travel Award
The GARDP Travel Award was created to support researchers from low- and middle-income countries who work on R&D of new treatments for drug-resistant infections to attend in-person conferences and training courses in the field of antibiotic research and development.
The award ran from 2022 until 2024 and was awarded to three researchers.
Ankur Sood – India

Ankur Sood, a medicinal chemist and PhD candidate attended the Interdisciplinary Course on Antibiotics and Resistance – ICARe in Annecy, France.
Following his attendance at the course, Ankur expressed that the course provided him with a great deal of knowledge and that it was an excellent experience. He mentioned that he gained an in-depth understanding of antibiotic discovery and resistance, as well as new techniques and methodologies of microbiology and bioinformatics.
He had the opportunity to meet and discuss new ideas and research with many academics and industry professionals. In addition to the classes, one-on-one discussions with faculty members and students allowed him to gain a fresh perspective and inspiring new ideas.
Richard Omole – Nigeria
Richard Omole, a lecturer and research scientist from Osun State University, Osogbo, Nigeria attended the International Conference On Nanomedicine And Nanobiotechnology – ICONAN 2024, in Barcelona, Spain.
Richard is an applied microbiologist and nano-scientist with a special interest in using microbial resources to present lasting solutions to diverse problems in the health, environment, and food sectors. He stated that attending ICONAN 2024 in Spain has expanded his research network, fostering more international collaborations for future research works, and allowed him to look into other directions on the manufacture of nanotechnology-based products with unexplored microbial resources and the design of novel nanomedicines.

Akshay Dhanokar – India

Akshay Dhanokar, a Ph.D. Research Scholar from the Central University of Rajasthan, India attended the New Antibacterial Discovery and Development conference, A Gordon Research Conference in Ventura, California, USA.
Akshay participated in the poster presentation session. This allowed him to present his research findings and receive constructive feedback from experts. The interactive nature of this session facilitated meaningful discussions and provided invaluable suggestions regarding his research approach. Additionally, he had the opportunity to interact with other experts in the same field and network for his upcoming career.
