Man-Wah Tan is Vice President and Senior Fellow at Genentech Inc in San Francisco, USA, a member of the Roche group.

At Genentech, Man-Wah leads the Infectious Diseases Therapeutic Area and Host-Microbe Interactions research. He leads the teams responsible for the discovery and development of transformative therapeutics against hard-to-treat diseases and infectious agents of medical importance as well as the discovery efforts in unravelling the molecular basis of host-microbe interactions and investigations into the roles of the microbiota in health and diseases, with focus on gastrointestinal diseases and immuno-oncology. Prior to this, Man-Wah served on the faculty at the Department of Genetics at the Stanford University School of medicine.

Man-Wah has published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to the discovery of 1 FDA-approved medicine and 6 other clinical assets. He has been elected to the Society of Fellows at Harvard University and received awards including the NIH Digestive Disease Center award, Basil O’ Connor Starter Scholar Award and the Research Biology Excellence Award.

Man-Wah received his master’s degree from the University of Cambridge and went on to receive his doctorate degree from Harvard University in 1997.
