Phage therapy

Therapy that uses natural phages in cocktails, engineered phages or phages as carrier for antibiotic payloads.

Phages (Bacteriophages) are viruses that solely kill and selectively target bacteria.

Phage therapy is used in a small number of countries, and whilst single patient success has been reported, development of these treatments is challenging; multiple clinical trials are ongoing.
