Javier Fernández Domínguez is a clinical microbiology specialist and PharmD with extensive experience in infectious diseases, antimicrobial therapy, and artificial intelligence innovation in healthcare. After graduating in Pharmacy from the Complutense University of Madrid, Javier specialised in Clinical Microbiology at the Hospital Universitario Central de Asturias (HUCA) and obtained his PhD from the University of Oviedo, earning both the International Mention and the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. He further completed training placements at internationally renowned institutions, including Hôpital Pitié-Salpêtrière, the University of Fribourg, and Mayo Clinic, with a focus on antimicrobial resistance.

Between 2016 and 2025, Javier was Head of the Antibiogram Section at HUCA, a founding member of the hospital’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (PROA), and Principal Investigator for antimicrobial resistance research within the Translational Microbiology Group at the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria del Principado de Asturias (ISPA). He also served as Associate Professor at the University of Oviedo from 2022 to 2025. He was a member of the Spanish Antibiogram Committee (2020–2025) and served on the editorial boards of national and international journals, including Enfermedades Infecciosas y Microbiología Clínica and Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology.

Since June 2025, Javier has been fully dedicated to Pragmatech AI Solutions, the startup he co-founded, where he currently serves as Co-CEO. Its flagship product, iAST, a software solution that supports antibiotic prescribing by integrating artificial intelligence with expert clinical knowledge, has obtained CE certification from the National Center for Medical Device Certification, making it the first product worldwide for this purpose to achieve such certification.

As a researcher, he has served as principal investigator and collaborator on multiple competitive research projects and has authored more than 90 scientific publications in national and international journals. He has received several research awards, including two PRAN awards from the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices and the Spanish Ministry of Health.
