Florian Maurer is the Head of Clinical Development at Basilea Pharmaceutica International AG and a Professor of Medical Microbiology at the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf. Holding both German and Swiss specialist certifications in clinical microbiology, he focuses on developing novel anti-infectives and diagnostic assays to manage infections caused by highly drug-resistant bacterial and fungal pathogens.
His experience includes leadership roles as Global Clinical Development Director, Infection & Immunity, at Roche Diagnostics; Head of the Supranational Reference Laboratory for Mycobacteria at Research Centre Borstel, Germany; and Founding Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf. He has also held leadership positions within the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) advisory and steering groups dedicated to combating drug-resistant infections.
