Martha Clokie is Professor of Microbiology at the University of Leicester, UK where she leads a group of post-doctoral researchers and PhD students working on different aspects of the therapeutic development of phages that target human and animal pathogens.

Her work encompasses all aspects of phage therapy development – from unravelling fundamental biology to product development, and commercialization. She is currently developing phages for major gut pathogens including clostridial and Salmonella species, respiratory pathogens and for antibiotic-resistant bacteria that cause urinary tract infections. She is also developing a phage-based diagnostic test for Borrelia. Three patents have been filed from her work.
