Flavio Emery is Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and Heterocyclic Chemistry at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Ribeirao Preto at University of São Paulo (FCFRP/USP), Brazil, since 2008.
His research is focused on developing new antimicrobial candidates, trying to advance the chemical space of antiparasitic and antibacterial compounds, both from natural or synthetic products. Since 2012, his research has focused on exploring molecular targets for designing new therapeutic candidates for tuberculosis, Chagas disease, leishmaniasis and schistosomiasis using natural products or structure-based and fragment-based drug discovery approaches.
Flavio was previously the President of the Brazilian Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences from 2019 to 2020 and has been a member of the Advisory Board of the International Society of Heterocyclic Chemistry. He is a co-chair of the recently launched Center for the Research and Advancement of Fragments and molecular Targets (CRAFT) at FCFRP/USP. He has published over 75 original articles and 15 reviews.
Flavio obtained his PhD in natural product chemistry in 2005 and spent nearly two years as a visiting researcher at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.
