Françoise Van Bambeke is Research Director of the Belgian Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique (FNRS) and leads a research group at the Louvain Drug Research Institute at the Université catholique de Louvain in Brussels, Beligium, which focuses on antibiotic pharmacology.

Her main research interests are the study of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters that affect antibiotic activity against persistent forms of infections (intracellular infection, biofilm) and the search for innovative strategies against such infections. She also investigates the resistance mediated by efflux mechanism as well as the optimization of antibiotic dosing based on PK/PD concepts. She has presented many lectures on these topics at national and international meetings.

Françoise has authored more than 200 papers over the last 30 years and is a member of the editorial board of different journals in the field of antibiotic pharmacology. She was nominated as one of the first ESCMID fellows for her services as an active member of the society and of the ECCMID programme committee over the 2017-2020 period.

Françoise Van Bambeke graduated as a pharmacist in 1991 and obtained her PhD in 1995 at the Univeristé catholique de Louvain.
