Robert A. Bonomo is a Distinguished University Professor of Medicine, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology and Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Proteomics and Bioinformatics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine (CWRU SOM) in the USA, where, as of 2022, he also serves as Senior Associate Dean. He is the Associate Chief of Staff for Academic Affairs at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Centre. He is Director of the Coordinating Centre for the VA Science and Health Initiative to Combat Infectious and Life-Threatening Diseases (VA SHIELD) and Director of the CWRU-Cleveland VAMC Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance and Epidemiology (Case VA CARES). Robert was designated as a Senior Clinician-Scientist Investigator by the Veterans Health Administration.
His research centres on the molecular mechanisms of antibiotic resistance, with a focus on β-lactamases and penicillin-binding proteins. He has authored more than 700 peer-reviewed scientific articles and is listed as a co-inventor on several patents for novel antimicrobial agents.
