Central Microbiology Laboratory

A central laboratory is a centralized facility where all the microbiology samples obtained from a clinical trial’s investigator sites are processed and analysed using standardized procedures.

The central microbiology laboratory can process, culture and identify the pathogen from patient specimens. It also provides further characterization from referred relevant organisms, which can also be transferred from sites to the central microbiology laboratory. This includes in vitro susceptibility tests and molecular characterization.
