Target product profile (TPP)

Definition:

The desired characteristics of a new drug or other medical intervention (such as a diagnostic tool).

TPPs include key factors such as nature of infection, age group, clinical efficacy, safety and tolerability, stability, route of administration, dosing frequency and cost. They are often developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) or other bodies to provide a global consensus on the requirements of a new drug or medical intervention, to guide research and development (R&D) activities.
